Two thousand and six was probably one that got away for Fanning. After an indifferent start he came back in the second half of the year with a vengeance taking out the Billabong Pro at Jeffreys Bay and then following suit with a victory at the Nova Schin Festival Brazil. As always he uses his array of lightening quick, razor sharp turns in everything from micro sized to massive and when on a roll he has almost unstoppable momentum. A member of the talented trio known as the Cooly Kids (which includes Dean Morrison and Joel Parkinson who all grew up in the Queensland suburb of Coolangatta), the man they call “White Lightening” will be on the hunt for his elusive first world crown and provided that he starts the year well he could be the one to steal the Foster’s ASP World Tour crown from Slater and return it to Australia where it has not been kept since Mark Occhilupo in 1999.
